St Nic's: Living on the edge with Jesus

Five Points to Start Off Your Day

  1. When you wake up make sure the first thing you do is put on your favourite worship CD while you’re getting up. Stop and listen to the words, don’t necessarily sing them, actually listen to what they’re saying and what their meaning might be. This will help you get focused for the day and help you make the day geared toward God. It will also mean you’ll be singing worship songs all day!
  2. In the morning, take some time to pray to God, even if it’s just for 3 minutes, to say one thing for each of the STOP words. For example:
    • Say Sorry for at least one thing
    • Say Thanks for at least one thing
    • Pray for Others (even if just for one other person)
    • Prayers for Please- ask God for strength for the day and that he will help you know what to say, and how to act in situations.
  3. Before you agree to go somewhere with anyone, stop and think, is this going to help me? If there’s going to be alcohol involved, don’t go. If it’s going to be hard for you stand up to temptation – ring me and we can do something together, meet up or whatever, even if you just need to chat.
  4. Remember, life is like a walk. We can go either way along a path, but which way is the right way? If you’re doing something you know you shouldn’t, stop, look where you are in life, listen to what God might be telling you to do, and turn around. God is always with you, but if you keep walking away from him, it’s going to break his heart, and hurt you more. So turn around and face the glory of God, he is always going to be there, waiting for you. Like a father waiting for a child, you are always welcome in his arms. But every time you walk away from him it’s like a slap in his face because all he wants to do is love you and help you.
  5. Is what I’m doing helpful to others? So many people have tried to help you, is what you’re doing helpful to their walk with Christ? Or does it make them think that you don’t really care? Does the life your leading showing non-Christians what being a Christian is all about? Do all of your friends know that you’re Christian and would they be able to tell from your life? Just some questions to get you thinking!
  6. Remember:

You can stand up to temptation. Temptation is only the devil trying to get one better than you and if you give in to temptation, it doesn’t help anyone, just lets Satan have a good laugh that he’s managed to make you do something you know you shouldn’t have.

Just think of the amazing possibilities that you could have in life, do you want to stop these opportunities by giving in to other stuff all the time? Think of how God could use you… and try to apply his will in your life. It might be hard, but all of your brothers and sisters in Christ are here for you. All of your friends are there to listen and help out.

But remember that if at any point they’re not available, there is always going to be one guy who is. Your best friend, the one that knows more about you than you ever could, the one true Lord loves you and is with you 24/7.

No one said life would be easy, but it will be worth it!
