Social Care
Jesus commanded us to show genuine concern for others by meeting their physical needs. By following his command others will see Christ at work in and through us. At St Nic’s social care is an integral part of our church activities. Not only do we set apart a proportion of our income each year to spend in this area but many of our congregation work as volunteers on various projects effectively forming a ministry of social care at St Nic’s.
Projects supported by St Nic’s include:
- Family Care supporting families and children through social work services, counselling and adoption
- Emmanuel House, providing day care and meals to homeless in Nottingham
- Framework Housing Association (formerly Macedon Trust) providing housing and care for the homeless
- The Vine, a Christian based project in Hyson green
- Esteem – sex and relationship education for teenagers in schools
- Nottingham Pregnancy Crisis Centre – support and help to women unexpectantly pregnant
- QMC Hospital Service – transporting ward patients who wish to attend hospital chapel services
- New Dawn – a general counselling service for those with a wide spectrum of problems
In conjunction with the 58i Nottingham-based charity, St Nic’s also supports:
- Aspire, supporting and mentoring those with drug and alcohol problems
- Rally, providing meals for those in need and counselling services in conjunction with Aspire
- Nottingham Nightstop, offering very temporary accommodation to vunerable young people
- Jerico Road Project, support for sex workers including prison visits and resettlement
Many of these employ professionals but require part time volunteers with general life skills or even just able to provide transport on occasion.
These initiatives are always seeking more volunteers to help in these much needed projects. If you feel able to give a little of yourself or would like further information please contact David Richards or Mary Ann Good by phoning the St Nic’s office or emailing socialcare@stnics.org.
