Children's Work at St Nic's

Ablaze is our Sunday morning children’s work where we come together to have fun learning about God.
The under 5s meet in the church centre: crèche is for the under 3s and Sparks for 3–5 year olds.
The 6–11 years meet in rooms at The Congregational Federation Church on Castle Gate. They meet together for a time of songs and games before splitting down into smaller teaching groups: Ignite 6–8 years, Inferno 9–11 years.

Ablaze Praise happens once a month when all the children’s groups come together to meet during the service. We have games, talks, puppets, drama sketches and lots more to help us learn about God.
Power Source is our group for 8–11 year olds. We meet every Thursday evening from 6.45–8.00 pm. The group meets alternately in a home in Wollaton and then at the Church Centre. We alternate weekly between social time social time one week and cell the next.

Once a term we hold a Messy Church, open to the whole local community, where families can come together for craft, story, chat, cake and construction!

On Thursday Mornings, mums with babies and toddlers meet together for Tots Bible Study, which includes a crèche for the children.  During holidays, social gatherings are organized and we even have an away-day without children!

There is a team of volunteers who provide Meals for Mums after the birth of a baby so that cooking is one less thing to think about for a few weeks!

Periodically we hold Family Faith Evenings to encourage parents in supporting their child’s spiritual development at home. Once a year we also run a Light Party, Holiday Club and a 8–11 years Weekend Away.

Mina Munns started as our Children’s and Family Worker on 1 July. The post is currently 0.6 (3 days plus Sunday morning), but it will be reviewed on a termly basis and become full-time as Mina grows the job. Mina has seven years’ experience as a primary school teacher. Her work with children in a church context has ranged from a large Baptist Church in Altrincham to St Alban’s Cathedral. She is creative (art, poetry, singing and dance) and deeply prayerful, having spent six months exploring vocation in St. Hilda’s Priory in Whitby. She is fun to be with and very organised!
