St Nic's: Living on the edge with Jesus

“The Noise”

The Noise is returning to Nottingham for the weekend 12–13 May 2007.

The Noise captures two thoughts. The first from a Monk, the second from Nike.

St Francis of Assisi commended his disciples to preach the good news and where necessary … use words. Jesus taught this as well – he put his words into action by not only declaring to his disciples that he had come to serve, he actually got down and washed their feet. The second thought is one most of us will be familiar with: ‘Just Do It’! In essence the Noise is about just that – touching peoples lives through our own service.

If you are interested please complete one of the two forms below and include a cheque for £10 made payable to St Nicholas PCC. (This covers a hot meal at the end of each day.)

To sign up you need to be able to take part for the full two days of the event and be willing to take part in washing cars, painting fences, clearing rubbish, decorating, removing graffiti, cutting grass, putting in plants, laying paths and much more. We are also hoping to lay on a community barbecue and organise football tournaments!

We do hope you can join us for what promises to be a fantastic weekend. For more information contact the church office or email Chris at chris@stnics.org.

Previous Noises

During the May Bank Holiday weekend, 3–7 May 2001, a team of just under 100 of us spent the weekend in Sneinton. We were working in partnership with the local parish church of St Christopher’s and the local Council Housing Department. Over the weekend we tidied-up over 90 different gardens and we cleared over 35 tonnes of rubbish.

At the start the locals did not really know what to expect but at the end of the three days many of them were out in the streets helping. Many of them could not get their head around why we were bothering. The weekend had an amazing impact and people are still talking about it. Our relationship with Sneinton is growing. Chris and others help at a local youth club on Wednesday nights. We are also helping out with the church services, and discussing with the council and others how we can do something more long-term for the community.

Many people were impacted by the original Nottingham Noise, but showing Jesus’ love and changing lives is an on-going process. That’s why we were back again in 2002, and yet again in 2003 with a record number of participants.
